Iota Kappa/Northern Arizona Brothers Elected Student Body President AND Vice-President

The Brothers of Iota Kappa Chapter have yet another reason to celebrate this semester! If it was not enough for Theta Chi to hold 3 of the 7 executive seats at IFC, being nominated for 6 awards such as chapter of the year, president of the year, and scholarship program of the year, Having 6 brothers
become RA's 2 of which earned the Senior RA Position and 2 additional brothers on the Alternate list, and being voted the best fraternity on campus by U-Plaid an online student publication, Theta Chi has struck yet AGAIN!

On Tuesday, March 11th, the student body of Northern Arizona University began voting in what promised to be one of the most electrifying student body elections in years. After the dust had settled and the elections commission
began looking at the data, Brad Busse a Founding Father and Vice President Emeritus of Theta Chi, was elected to become the ASNAU Student Body President and Nickolas Goad a Founding Father and President Emeritus of Theta Chi, was
elected to become the ASNAU Vice President of Student Affairs for the2008-2009 school year.

It is truly a time to celebrate being a Theta Chi here at Northern Arizona University. The leadership in which Theta Chi continually fosters and recruits from has proven once again to be at the top here NAU. As we look forward to the future, these results of the election promise to bring big things back to the Chapter in areas of Recruitment, Public Relations, and overall power
within our student body and administration.

Hat-tip to Brother Goad for submitting this article and photo!

Recruitment Boot Camp Launches New Website

Our friends over at CampuSpeak have a new website for David Stollman's Recruitment Boot Camp programs. Check it out at www.RecruitOrDie.com

Those brothers that attended CLC in Columbia, SC this past summer will remember David Stollman for his keynote speech.

The new site will soon have a resources section so you will want to add it to your bookmarks.

There are Recruitment Boot Camp programs for entire Greek systems as well as individual chapters.

2007-2008 has been a great year for most chapters recruitment-wise so the programming seems to be paying off. At a minimum, chapters should be initiating 15 new members a year to have enough members for everyone to have a great fraternity experience. Theta Chi has historically been in the the "Top 10%" of all fraternities nationally in terms of number of chapters and number of men initiated since founding--your chapters goal should be to be in the "Top 10%" on your campus in terms of number of brothers as well!

Epsilon Eta/IUP Support Brother Bob Woodruff's Foundation for Wounded Soldiers

From: The Penn Online
By: Holly Bernard, Senior Staff Writter

The Indiana University of Pennsylvania chapter of the Theta Chi fraternity will be hosting events this semester to raise money for journalist Bob Woodruff's Wounded Soldiers Fund.

Woodruff, most notably known for his work with ABC News, was a Theta Chi brother during his undergraduate coursework at Colgate University in New York.

In 2006, a roadside explosion in Iraq injured his brain and almost killed him, according to NYTimes.com.

Every fall, the 213 chapters of Theta Chi each individually choose a charity to sponsor. This year, the IUP chapter chose to sponsor Woodruff's Wounded Soldiers Fund.

The idea to support this charity came right before Woodruff's Manhattan presentation in November, according to 1978 IUP grad Kevin Trout, the vice president of IUP Theta Chi Alumni Board of Directors.

This year, the fund raising events will involve not only current Theta Chi students, but also alumni.

"This is the first time a philanthropy funded event has occurred," Trout said, adding that it's also the biggest and most ambitious event the fraternity has ever done.

"Previously, we have only worked with the undergraduate students, but we are [now] working with alumni and students," he added.

Planned events include weekly 50/50 raffles, dodge ball and flag football tournaments, a Theta Chi marathon and an alumni golf outing, Trout said.

"We have the full support of all of our brothers, our families and especially our alumni, many of whom are currently serving in the military in Iraq," said IUP Theta Chi Vice President Craig Taylor (senior, communications media) in a news release.

Those interested in getting involved or are looking for more information can visit the Theta Chi Web site at www.iupthetachi.org.

Gamma Rho Chapter & Dale Taylor Promote Spring Break Safety at Florida State U.

From: FSUView & Florida Flambeau
By: Kelsey Gilbert

The much-anticipated mid-semester vacation is just around the corner, and while many students are planning trips to places like Panama City and the Bahamas, a few Greek chapters are urging peers to be "aware" this spring break.

"We hope that the end result will, at least for spring break, make people aware of their surroundings and anything wrong with the situations and the risks they could bring," said Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) President Frank Rojas.

TKE, (the Gamma Rho Chapter of) Theta Chi and Gamma Phi Beta are all working with the Florida State University Police Department and Men Advocating Responsible Conduct (MARC) to create five days of safety knowledge. Spring Break Survival Week began Saturday, March 1 and will last through Wednesday, March 5.

"It's a good way to promote the 2010 healthy campus initiative," said Michael Bernstein, president of Theta Chi. "It's going to help our group as far as new information on topics like violation against women and DUI prevention."

Survival Week began Saturday at noon with the second ever FSUPD "Stop DUI in 24 Hours" bicycle marathon. The bike-a-thon lasted until Sunday at noon with numerous events to encourage students and adults to think twice before drinking and driving.

According to Rojas and Bernstein, Monday will continue the week's events with a seminar on violence against women. MARC will be hosting the White Ribbon Campaign day to bring men together and make violence against women "a thing of the past."

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a brief kickboxing class for women, led by Gamma Rho brother Kevin Noeh, this event will last until 8 p.m in the Moore auditorium. Guest speakers include the (Executive Director) of Theta Chi Fraternity, Dale Taylor, and the grand secretary of Tau Kappa Epsilon Kevin Pollard, also a Liasion to the White Ribbon Campaign.

Both presidents said they are eager for Spring Break Survival Week to progress.

"Be safe. Be responsible. Don't drink and drive," Bernstein advised students.

A discussion on intoxicated tattoos and piercings was set to be held Tuesday but was cancelled because the speaker is unable to make it.

Members of the organizations involved still encourage peers to be cautious when considering permanent new additions while under the influence.

Spring Break Survival Week will conclude Wednesday, March 5 with alcohol awareness trivia games in the Union State ballrooms. A grand prize of $200 will be awarded to those who win the pop culture quizzes. Bernstein hopes this will be an "incentive" for people to attend and learn new information.

The idea to raise safety awareness before spring break was brought to Rojas' attention by Dan Moore of Thagard Student Health Center after working together on TKE's alcohol awareness week back in October.

"Anything that we can do to help students make wise decisions and stay safe during spring break is well worth it," wrote Vice President for Student Affairs Mary Colburn, in a letter to Rojas endorsing Spring Break Survival Week.

Rojas then contacted Theta Chi president Michael Bernstein about the Survival Week where they then got Gamma Phi Beta involved as well.

Together, they were able to gain support from the Healthy Campus 2010 Committee, which works to find ways to solve numerous health issues that are brought to college campuses.

"Students and individuals can make better decisions on their own," said Gamma Phi Beta president Rachael Ferris. "With all this information provided to the students, we hope they will."
